orderTopia Story :: How the Cloud Based Point of Sale Arrived

The orderTopia Story

How did we get here?

orderTopia is the brainchild of Dan Epstein and Brian Williford.  Over many lunches at Dan's restaurant (eat at Eppie's!), Dan and Brian talked about the restaurant technology Dan was using at Eppie's.  How did it work, how much did it cost, what could it do, and more importantly, what couldn't it do?  The conversation kept coming back to one thing: how to bring the old-school technology of restaurant POS systems into the 21st century?

It's late 2008.  Facebook is exploding.  iPhones are selling like crazy.  And Twitter is about to be huge.  We keep trying to figure out how restaurants can take advantage of all this new technology offered by iPhones and Facebook and Twitter.  We want a Point of Sale (POS) system that could do more than just take orders and print receipts.  A POS system that not only can integrate today's new technology and social media outlets, but that can grow with technology and the Internet so that it's never outdated.

Seeing this opportunity, we decided to build a orderTopia: a POS system for the future.  orderTopia is specifically designed for iPhone ordering, mobile ordering, online ordering, and social media networking.

Developers, coders, and marketers are building incredible applications for social networks right now, and we could see the food and retail industries being left behind.  Eating and shopping are a major part of our daily lives, but the technology relied on by the food and retail industries hasn't changed with the times.  We are changing that with orderTopia.

Our goal is not only to change the actual location of the point of sale, but to change the entire shopping experience.  From fun widgets and geo-locative push messages, to hashtag and iPhone orders, we think the world will never be the same.
