Twitter Point of Sale Systems by orderTopia :: Twitter Ordering via API

Twitter as a Point of Sale

Twitter Hashtag Ordering

Have you ever imagined using your Twitter account to order food? Well it's on the way. orderTopia's Social Media POS API will allow merchants to assign menu groupings to Twitter hashtags (a word or phrase preceded by #). Or put more simply, you'll be able to order food from your favorite restaurant just by posting on Twitter.

If the customer tweets:
"Going to @EatAtEppies to have the #DailySpecial-1230 for lunch today."

Here is what will happen:

  • The orderTopia API will scan each user's Twitter account every 90 seconds and check for orderTopia hashtags.  When a participating merchant shows up, like @EatAtEppies, then our system will process the order hashtag.
  • In the example above, an order for the Daily Special would be sent to Eppie's orderTopia queue.
  • Depending on the customer's profile preferences, they might then get an email asking them to confirm the order and to confirm payment.
  • The order is then sent to the merchant's POS system at the proper time, printing from the correct kitchen printers.
  • The customer shows up on time (12:30), and gets to walk in and walk out.  No waiting in lines, no waiting to pay.

Twitter Promotions

Not only will your customers be able to order via Twitter, but you'll also be able to promote your menu and store items on Twitter.

  • Post to Twitter from your orderTopia storefront, and offer a direct link to a selected item.  When a customer clicks on the link, it will take him right to the order page of that item.
  • Offer a coupon for customer's who visit your store from Twitter.  If someone clicks through to your store from a link posted on Twitter, you can offer them a discount on part or all of their order.
  • Offer the first 5 customers from Twitter to order a certain item a free bonus.  For example, you could say, "The first 5 customers to order a salad get a free cookie." orderTopia would then count the first 5 customers to visit from Twitter, and automatically add a cookie to their cart.  Customers 6 - 15 could get a message saying, "Sorry, you were customer number 6." Or have fun with it, "Sorry, you were just a little too late. That's the way the cookie crumbles."
